As an everyday yogini, I am definitely a huge supporter of getting the word out about the tremendous benefits meditation and yoga can have on a person, a community and the world. Therefore, we are happy to give back to Dhyanyoga Centers, an organization that has been lighting up the lives of thousands for the past 40 years!
We donate a portion of our profits annually to Dhyanyoga Centers so that they can further their mission of bringing traditional yoga and meditation practices to the masses. For the past 40+ years they have offered free meditation programs all over the United States, Europe and India. At their main center in Antioch, CA, they offer hatha yoga and meditation classes, workshops, retreats and pilgrimages to holy places as well as a variety of wellness therapies.
And, in Gujarat, India they have a beautiful ashram where they offer free weekly medical services to the poor, distribute grains to the hungry, provide school supplies to village kids, take care of an amazing herd of cows and offer sincere spiritual seekers opportunities to do intense yogic practices at the banks of the holy Narmada river.
In addition to donating, over the course of the year, we make it a point to get out there and put our hands and heart to work by volunteering over 250+ hours. Our seva (self-less service) varies from coordinating bake sales and cooking for large retreats, to graphic design work and the rare opportunity to do personal seva for our teacher, Shri Anandi Ma directly.
No matter what the case, seva always provides us an opportunity for personal introspection and remembering how important the power of compassion for ourselves and others is. Not to mention, we get to bask in the company of other everyday yogi’s and yogini’s. :)
